At W&AS Bruce, we are committed to ensuring access to justice for all and that includes a long-standing dedication to providing Legal Aid services for those who need it most. From private client to civil matters, we believe high-quality legal representation shouldn’t be limited by financial circumstance.
That’s why we are especially pleased to announce that a new solicitor will be joining our team at the end of July, bringing with her an impressive background in Legal Aid work, particularly in Family Law, children’s rights and public law challenges.
Our newest team member began her legal career with a traineeship at a respected Children’s Law Centre in Edinburgh, funded by the Justice First Fellowship Scheme – a programme designed to support social justice-focused lawyers. Since qualifying in 2022, she has remained in that role, building a strong reputation as a committed and compassionate advocate for young people and families facing some of the most complex and sensitive legal issues.
Her areas of expertise include:
With a Distinction in her LLM in Human Rights and Criminal Justice, she brings not only legal knowledge but also a passion for using the law to protect the most vulnerable in society. She is also certified in Child-Centered Practice and contributes to the Justice First Fellowship’s Development Group, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to improving the legal profession’s approach to social justice.

Her arrival at W&AS Bruce strengthens our firm’s ability to support individuals and families across Scotland in some of the most vital areas of law. She is particularly interested in building links with Women’s Aid groups and community organisations to ensure that women and children in crisis have meaningful access to legal advice and representation.

I found the other staff lovely and helpful too, Helen in particular.” Leanne
Superb service…
“I recently required the services of a solicitor. Having dealt with W and AS Bruce before with house purchases, I had no hesitation in contacting them for assistance. The entire process was seamless and I was fully appraised of what was happening throughout the process. They made what could have been a difficult situation, very straightforward for myself and my now ex-wife.
Helen Gibb and Selina Mackay are an absolute credit to the firm and I would have no hesitation in seeking their help again.” Keith
“Selina has supported us through our court cases in the family court over the past 4 years and has been extremely helpful, professional and caring. She has gone out of her way to help us and I would definitely recommend her!” Marscha
Losing a loved one is one of life’s most difficult experiences. Alongside the emotional impact, there are practical and legal responsibilities that need to be addressed. At W&AS Bruce Solicitors, we understand how overwhelming this time can be. That’s why we offer sensitive, expert support to help you through the process of dealing with a deceased person’s estate – a process legally known in Scotland as ‘Executry’.
The term “executry” refers to the legal process of administering a deceased person’s estate – everything they owned, including property, money and possessions. Whether the person died with a will (testate) or without one (intestate), the estate must be properly managed and distributed in accordance with Scots law.
This process includes:
It’s a detailed and often complex task and the person responsible – known as the executor – carries significant legal duties and potential liabilities.
Grief can make even simple tasks feel insurmountable and executry work is rarely simple. Executors may be close family members still coming to terms with their loss, now faced with unfamiliar legal procedures, deadlines and financial decisions.
From applying for Confirmation (Scotland’s version of Probate) to dealing with inheritance tax and resolving disputes, the process can take months – or even years – without the right support.
With offices in Fife, Midlothian and Dundee, W&AS Bruce Solicitors has decades of experience guiding families through the executry process with care, clarity and compassion. We understand the practical steps, the legal requirements and importantly, the human element involved.
Our teams provide:
We aim to relieve you of the burden so you can focus on what matters most – honouring your loved one’s memory.
If you are facing the loss of a loved one and need assistance with Executry matters, don’t hesitate to contact us. Just click here for your nearest office.

“From the start, Robyn treated us in a highly professional manner: she is extremely knowledgeable, experienced and thoughtful, with a great sense of humour. She guided us through both processes with ease, explaining all the relevant issues while leaving us to make the final decisions. A real credit to the company.” Geoff
“I can’t recommend Robyn at W&AS Bruce Solicitors highly enough. She supported me through the process of setting up my will, power of attorney, and some additional legal matters, and made everything incredibly clear and easy to understand. Legal processes can often feel overwhelming, but Robyn explained everything in a straightforward and reassuring way. She was always responsive to questions, quick to clarify anything I was unsure about, and consistently did what she said she would do, exactly when she said she’d do it. A really professional and reliable service.” David
“Just wanted to thank Robyn for making the writing of our Wills and Powers of Attorney such a straightforward and pleasant experience. Robyn was knowledgeable, friendly and explained everything very clearly. We would certainly recommend to anyone and will definitely be using WAS Bruce for any legal matters in the future.” Debbie & Charles, Crossford
