Selina Mackay is a highly experienced Court solicitor with a strong background in civil and criminal litigation. With almost two decades of experience, Selina has developed significant relationships with clients and colleagues in the Sheriffdom of Tayside, Central, and Fife.
After qualifying in 2007, Selina began her career with W&AS Bruce, where she has remained since. Selina began her career as an assistant in our busy Kirkcaldy office, before relocating as an Associate to head up our Court Department in Dunfermline. Selina became a Partner in 2014.
Latterly, she has focused on civil litigation only. The majority of her clients instruct her in separation and divorce proceedings, particularly in relation to the more contentious issue of financial provision upon divorce.
Known for her strong negotiation skills and commitment to her client’s well-being, Selina strives to avoid prolonged court battles. She understands the emotional impact of family disputes, particularly when children are involved.
Despite being a Court lawyer, Selina focuses on trying to keep cases out of the Courtroom. Using strong, but fair, negotiation skills, Selina focuses on her client’s reaching a financial settlement that provides them security and a fair share of the marital assets. She is acutely aware that once a case ends up in Court, there are often no winners. This is particularly the case where children are involved. Selina has been instructed in many court cases over the years, some of which have been reported as a result of their complex subject matter. For example in S v S 2012 Fam. L.R. 148 (also known as KS v TS) , acting for a mother in divorce proceedings, Selina was successful in defending a counterclaim by a father who sought an order that the children of the marriage should be raised in his faith. Her main areas of practice include Separation and Divorce, Financial Provision on Divorce, Child Contact disputes, Children’s Panel Hearings, Guardianships for Adults with Incapacity, and more.
In her personal time, Selina enjoys family activities, exercise at the gym, leisurely walks, and socialising with friends. Raised in Perth alongside her siblings, she continues to call this area home. She values her community and takes pride in providing quality legal services to those in her hometown.
